Map number 10: shows Europe 200 years after the time of map number 9. The States of the Church have not declined in political power and clearly dominate central Italy. Even though the Protestant Reformation has changed much of northern Europe, by this time, the political system is still feudal and the Holy Roman Emperor is a German, hence the Holy Roman Empire is called the German Empire on this map. The feudal system in Germany still depended for its temporal authority on a pyramid of ascending vassals and lords with the Pope at the top even though northern Europe was more Protestant than Papal.
